Endangered Leatherback Sea Turtles have made their first appearance of the season at The Ritz Carlton Amelia Island!
Read below a statement from @PM_Traveler, Patrick Millard:
This is the first nest of the season on Amelia Island and it is one week before the official Sea Turtle Nesting Season begins. It’s also the earliest date that a turtle nest has been recorded on Amelia Island, Florida. The turtle weighs an estimated 1000 lbs. and buried an estimated 60 eggs. Its distinctive sand tracks are still in place. The Amelia Island Sea Turtle Watch Organization is marking the nest towards the south end of the resort’s beach. One of our guests also spotted the turtle returning to the ocean at 5:45am, yesterday morning.
The Sea Turtle Nesting Season begins the first week of May and the hatching of the nests commences between mid to late August. We are excited to welcome our back our ocean neighbors to the beaches of our resort and we hope you and your clients have the opportunity to see them first-hand this summer!
